Agribusiness make 90% of export revenues from Brazil’s Paraná State ports

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Revenues generated by exports at Brazil’s Paraná State ports come almost entirely from agribusiness, as of the nearly US$19.8 billion accumulated in 2021, 90% (US$17.9 billion) were in agricultural products.

The soybean complex and chicken accounted for more than half of this amount. Compared to the US$15.8 billion generated by agro-exports in 2020, cumulative revenues in 2021 grew 13.6%.

“We are a port that mainly serves agribusiness not only in the state but in all of Brazil,” commented Portos do Paraná general manager Luiz Fernando Garcia.

According to the manager of the public company that manages the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina, a little more than 60% of the income generated by exports is from Paraná production.

Data from the Ministry of Economy (Comex/Stat MDIC) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (Agrostat) also show that the products of the soybean complex – grain, bran, and oil -, shipped through the Paraná terminals generated revenues of almost US$8.9 billion.

Meat exported through the Paranaguá Port Container Terminal reached US$4.3 billion, of which almost US$3.1 billion was chicken. Other important items that generated export revenues through the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina are the sugar-alcohol complex (US$1.8 billion) and forestry products (US$1.6 billion).

Agricultural imports last year increased 34% compared to the value recorded in 2020.
