Peru: National Port Authority projects works for US$1.9 billion by 2022

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Peru‘s National Port Authority indicated that after a positive 2021, despite the pandemic, it projects investments for the sector close to US$1.9 billion.

Among the planned works, which private actors will execute, are the construction of the Multipurpose Port Terminal of Chancay, which will require an investment of more than US$1.2 billion in its first new stage; as well as the expansion of the South Pier of the Port of Callao and the execution of phases 1 and 2 of the Multipurpose Port Terminal of Salaverry, which reach an investment of US$350 million and US$94 million respectively.

Likewise, there is the addendum with APM Terminals for an estimated investment of US$1.1 billion in the north pier, which is in the process of approval by the competent entities.

The APN highlighted that “in the line of promoting the quality and modernization of the National Port System, through the port services offered, the port sector will continue working on the implementation of a series of digital tools for the continuous improvement of port logistics management, such as the Foreign Trade Single Window, led by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), and the Port Community System, which is an application of international best practices for the design of a digital and innovation strategy, a project that, initially, will be directed to the Port of Callao”.

The concessioned port terminals that executed 100% of their works were the General San Martin Port Terminal – Stages 2 and 3 (US$66.7 million) and the Matarani Port Terminal through its new truck reception and its connection to the chute (US$6.5 million); works that the APN have officially and fully received.

To these are added the Multipurpose North Terminal of the port of Callao with the implementation of its lighting at Pier 5 (IC) (US$650 million); the South Zone Container Terminal of the port of Callao, with its “Reefer Platform and Spill Well” (US$262 million); and the Paita Port Terminal and its 60-meter expansion of the Marginal Pier (US$8.7 million), which are still in the process of receiving the works.

Under the National Port System Law, the projects that completed works and that have been officially received by the APN are the Monte Azul Multiboyas Port Terminal (US$43.5 million), which began operations in March 2021; as well as the port terminals of Petroperu – Talara Refinery with its implementation of the MU2 Pier, which is part of the Talara Refinery Modernization Project – Phase 2 (US$6.7 million); and Multiboyas Petroperu – Mollendo (US$3.5 million); which are in the process of being received.
