RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – LATAM on Sunday, January 9, announced the cancellation of 47 domestic and international flights scheduled through January 16. The increase in Covid-19 and influenza cases prompted the airline’s decision.
Two flights between Congonhas and Florianópolis scheduled for Sunday were part of the list.
In a statement, the airline stressed that customers may reschedule their trips with no additional fee or penalty, or ask for a refund. The number of cancelled flights represents approximately 1% of the total scheduled by the company for January.

The rise in cases is affecting air travel. On Friday, January 7, Azul Airlines announced that the percentage of canceled flights had doubled since Thursday.
In a statement, the company said that 10% of all flights were affected, representing 90 flights. LATAM passengers diagnosed with Covid-19 may reschedule their flight once with no penalty, but will be charged the fare difference, if any. Customers will be able to travel 14 days after being diagnosed with the disease or certifying that they are no longer in the contagious stage.
Due to the rise in infections, on Thursday, Gol issued a statement saying that although there had been an increase in the number of cases, no flights had been cancelled or changed.
Gol also says that 100% of its employees is immunized and that “only with a widely immunized population will it be possible to overcome this challenge posed by the pandemic.”
