Argentina suspends exports of 7 meat cuts until 2023

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Argentina’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries reported the suspension, until the end of 2023, of the export of seven meat cuts to guarantee the supply of the domestic market.

Resolutions 301/21 and 302/21 were published this Monday in the Official Gazette and detail that the new measures seek to establish a regulatory framework for the commercialization and export of livestock from that country for the years 2022 and 2023.

The Official Gazette clarifies that, until December 31, 2023, the “definitive and/or suspensive export, with destination outside the country” of several fresh, chilled or frozen beef cuts will be suspended.

The meat cuts that may not be exported, preferred by Argentines, are roast with or without bone, flank, flank steak, roast topside, shoulder, and vacuum.

For its part, the Undersecretariat of Livestock of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries issued a statement clarifying that “the decision has been agreed with the producers’ organizations (and the meat processing industry)”.

It also reiterated that the measure was taken “to give predictability and confidence to Argentine livestock, guaranteeing production, exports, and consumption of Argentines, based on the technical analysis of the sector”.

Another decision was to free, in its entirety, the export of beef cattle of categories D, E, and bulls and bones with meat from deboning.

Likewise, the Beef Production Observatory will be created to advise and promote productivity and generate a good business climate in the beef chain.
