AES Brasil and Itaú sign agreement for renewable energy generation projects

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – AES Operações, a subsidiary of AES Brasil (AESB3), reached an investment agreement with Itaú Unibanco (ITUB4) for renewable energy generation projects.

The financial institution will subscribe to new preferred shares to be issued in the context of a capital increase by Guaimbê Holding, to which the bank will contribute R$360 (US$63.3) million. The operation was approved by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) on December 16.

With the subscription of the new preferred shares issued in the capital increase, Itaú will expand its stake as a shareholder of Guaimbê to 23.72% of its capital.

According to the recent release, the agreement reinforces AES Brasil Group’s ability to attract quality investors, as well as reaffirming the bank’s commitment to promote the generation of energy from renewable sources.

“This is an opportunity to promote its growth project, directing the resources provided by Itaú to expand its portfolio of renewable energy generation projects,” the company adds.

The operation also includes the contribution to Guaimbê Holding by AES Operações, of its stake in Ventus Holding de Energia Eólica, a company comprising the Ventus Wind Power Complex, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, as well as its stake in the companies AGV Solar IV Geradora de Energia S.A., AGV Solar V Geradora de Energia S.A. and AGV Solar VI Geradora de Energia S.A., which include the second phase of the Ouroeste Solar Complex, located in the municipality of Ouroeste, in São Paulo state.
