Bolivia advances in energy export project to Argentina

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “We are continuing the works to export electricity to neighboring countries. We are resuming the Juana Azurduy project with the laying of a power line to Argentina, which is now 86% complete,” the president wrote on Twitter.

He added that once completed, Bolivia will be able to sell 120 megawatts (MW) to the neighboring country.

As recently reported by the National Electricity Company (ENDE), the project comprises the construction of a 110 km transmission line, of which 40 km are in Bolivian territory and 70 km on the Argentine side.

The line runs from the Yacuagua substation in Bolivia to the Tartagal substation in Argentina.

ENDE president Marco Escobar said that 120 MW will initially be exported, a volume which will guarantee the stability of the electricity system in northern Argentina.

He added that Bolivia currently has a surplus of 1,350 MW of electricity for industrialization and export, with an installed capacity of approximately 3,000 MW and a domestic demand of 1,650 MW from the various generation projects.
