Brazil: Covid Secretary contradicts Bolsonaro and says vaccine for children is safe

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health’s Special Secretary for the Fight against Covid-19 Rosana Leite de Melo argued through a technical note sent to the Federal Supreme Court that the Covid-19 vaccine for children “is safe,” contrary to President Jair Bolsonaro’s position.

Rosana Leite is a member of the Ministry of Health, headed by Marcelo Queiroga, who has also positioned himself against the vaccination of children.

Queiroga said last week that deaths of children by Covid do not warrant “urgent decisions.”

According to the note completed last December 19, signed by the Secretary, the Covid-19 vaccine developed for children is safe, the immunizer is a protective tool and vaccination will mitigate disruption of classes during the pandemic.
