RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The survey was conducted between December 13 and 16, with 3,666 people in 191 municipalities. The error margin is 2 percentage points up or down, indicating a technical tie for the result.
The rest of respondents either don’t know (9%) or think that the government did neither good nor bad in replacing the program (7%).
According to the survey, rejection of Auxílio Brasil is greater among PT (Workers’ Party) supporters – the party that created Bolsa Família – and critics of the Jair Bolsonaro government (62% in both cases), voters of ex-president Lula (59%), and people who say that food at home has been insufficient to feed the family (51%).
The new program’s approval rating is higher among Bolsonaro voters and supporters of the current government (both 76%), entrepreneurs (58%), evangelicals (51%), and people who have been able to feed their families (51%).
Also according to the survey, 25% of Brazilians were beneficiaries or lived with someone receiving Bolsa Família through October this year. After the program change, 22% are in households that received the new Auxílio Brasil last month or would receive it in December. The difference between the two figures is also within the error margin.
