Ecuador becomes first Latin American country to decree mandatory vaccination against Covid-19

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Today, the Ecuadorian Government made vaccination against Covid-19 mandatory, becoming the first country in the region to officially introduce this controversial measure for everyone, including children as young as five.

It joins controversial European countries such as Germany, Austria, and Greece, which also opted for this decree.

Ecuador declared this Thursday as mandatory vaccination against Covid-19, at a time when the number of cases of infection in the country continues to increase, informed the Ministry of Public Health.

(Definition of vaccines as seen by Peter Doshi, Editor-in-Chief of the British Medical Journal – BMJ).

There is evidence that Covid injections do not prevent infection or the spread and transmission of the virus. It only reduces the risk of becoming very sick and dying from the virus.

Given this questionable track record of mRNA Covid injections, mandatory vaccination is a harsh tool that casts Guillermo Lasso and his team in an authoritarian light.

“In Ecuador, vaccination against Covid-19 is declared mandatory. This decision was taken due to the current epidemiological status, i.e., the increase of infected people and the circulation of new variants of ‘concern’, such as Ómicron”, the official statement indicates.

In addition, it adds, “it obeys the international trend that shows the speed of contagion and the pressure on health services that have a high demand for hospitalization”.

According to a source at the Ministry of Health, Ecuador is the first country in Latin America to adopt this decision across the board.

LEGAL BASIS

The Ecuadorian Government appealed to an Organic Law on Health article as a legal basis.

This “declares the obligatory nature of immunizations against certain diseases, in the terms and conditions that the national and local epidemiological reality requires”.

And the Executive is responsible for “defining the norms and the basic national immunization scheme”. This is added “to provide the population with the necessary elements to comply with it at no cost”.

The authorities assure that there are vaccines for the whole population.

It also appeals to article 83.7 of the Constitution, which imposes “the duty of Ecuadorians to promote the common good and to put the general interest before the particular interest”.

The U.S. VAERS data, released Dec. 17 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), include a total of 965,843 adverse event reports across all age groups following COVID vaccination, including 20,244 deaths and 155,506 serious injuries between Dec. 14, 2020, and Dec. 10, 2021.

In children 5 to 11 years of age, 4,181 adverse events were reported, 80 classified as severe, and two deaths. One death occurred in a 5-year-old girl who died four days after her first Pfizer injection.

ECUADOR EMULATES THE WRONG ROLE MODELS

The Government has also relied “on several European countries” that “will implement this measure” and recalls the cases of “Germany, Austria and Greece” that will apply it “at the beginning of 2022”.

These three European countries are facing a growing protest movement from their populations due to this mandatory vaccination, which could spiral out of control at any time.

The ministry recalled that after the holidays for the Day of the Dead, the Independence of Cuenca, and the Foundation of Quito, there had been an increase in cases of Covid-19.

Ecuador reported on Wednesday 819 new positives for Covid-19 and totaled 539,037 cases of the disease during the pandemic, while deaths rose to 33,634, between 23,815 confirmed with the disease and 9,819 probable.

OMICRON FEAR JUSTIFIED?

Recent official South African medical reports and countrywide COVID data had indicated that since early November, when Omicron was first detected, COVID cases substantially increased.

However, most patients had, at worst, mild symptoms, and cases are now in steep decline. These observations substantially differ from the previous waves, including those attributed to the delta variant.
