Brazil expects US$29 billion from privatizations in 2022

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The expected amount is almost double the R$89 (US$15.614) billion the South American giant collected from the concessions or sales of public companies between 2019 and 2021.

Infrastructure Minister Tarcísio de Freitas confirmed this Monday during the balance of his administration, noting that the figure expected for 2022 will be reached with concessions Brazil has planned for airports, road networks, railroads, ports and sanitation services.

“Brazil will be the country with the largest private infrastructure in the world,” the Minister assured.

The private sector’s stake will lower unemployment, increase the sustainability of Brazil’s infrastructure and increase the sector’s productivity, Freitas said.

The country expects the inflow of over R$150 billion from the concession – or contract renewal – of airports, highways and railroads alone.

In addition, the country is expecting to receive funds from the port sector, with the auction of 4 ports, a canal and 24 maritime terminals, involving some R$14.63 billion in investments.

On this point, the focus will be on the concessions to be awarded for the port of Santos, Brazil and Latin America’s largest maritime terminal.

For next year, the government plans to auction 18 airports – among them Santos Dumont, in Rio de Janeiro, and Congonhas, in São Paulo, two of Brazil’s main air terminals -, with which it hopes to raise some R$13.4 billion.

As for the road network, the South American giant expects the inflow of some R$81.6 billion in 2022 with 14 concessions covering some 8,800 km of highways.

In addition, Brazil expects the inflow of R$55.79 billion in contracts to be renewed and awarded in railroads.
