RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Electric cars are a trend worldwide, and Argentina is starting to join this trend. This month, those who own an electrified car will connect the City of Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata through the first electric corridor of the Atlantic Coast, which will have charging points strategically located along the entire route.
The electric corridor, developed by ChargeBox Net, has charging stations approximately every 100 kilometers. In this first stage, 22 kW AC chargers will be installed. The intention is that they will be replaced in 2022 by super-fast DC chargers of between 50 kW and 100 kW, which will be the network standard for charging points on routes and long stretches.

The charging points will be located at strategic sites such as the renowned Atalaya de Chascomús inn, the Howard Johnson thermal hotel in Dolores, Cariló Golf and Hotel, Carrefour Mar del Plata, and, as a final stop, the Sheraton Mar del Plata Hotel.
INSTALLATION
“In 2018, we set out to be the reference in charging solutions for electric mobility in Argentina. Today we are the leading charging network in several points installed, and we have a projection of 200 fast and semi-fast chargers for the next two years,” remarked Nicolás Nervi, founding partner of ChargeBox Net.
“The Buenos Aires-Mar del Plata corridor will have high quality chargers and the best service,” assured Matías Martínez de Hoz, founding partner of the company.
This week, a caravan made up of a Nissan Leaf, a 100% electric car, and a DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4, a plug-in hybrid, traveled this route for the first time, stopping at the different chargers along the way and inaugurating this new corridor.
Currently, in the City of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires, there are already 18 other charging points installed, distributed in the international airport of Ezeiza, San Martín, San Miguel, Olivos, Martínez, San Isidro, Nordelta, Ingeniero Maschwitz, Tortuguitas and Pilar.
The latest annual report of the International Energy Agency (IEA) shows that during 2020, at the height of the pandemic, sales of electric cars soared by 41% worldwide, with Europe and China being the two main markets.
Specifically in Argentina, in 2020, 2,383 electric vehicles were patented against 1,584 in 2019, which evidences a growth in the sector that is expected to grow.
