Peru will not grant Bolivia sovereign access to Pacific Ocean – Mirtha Vásquez

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The head of the Peruvian Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez, rejected charges that the administration of Pedro Castillo is coordinating granting an exit to the sea to landlocked Bolivia.

She also asserted that Bolivia’s former President Evo Morales could not continue his missionary activities in Peru.

“They have thought up a series of absolutely inaccurate proposals. They say that Bolivia’s sovereignty is in danger and that Peru wants to cede a sovereign exit to Bolivia. None of this is true,” she explained in an interview with Canal N.

Former diplomats spoke out against the arrival in Peru of former president Evo Morales to participate in a meeting in Cusco of Runasur, an organization led by the former Bolivian president, designed to unite indigenous peoples in South America. The event is scheduled for December 20 and 21.

Given this, Mirtha Vásquez stressed that the Bolivian president is “just another citizen”. “I have seen other experiences in other years that have been similar between Bolivia and Peru. For example, the Summit of the Peoples, things of this nature have been carried out”, she added.

Likewise, the Prime Minister recalled that Morales has no legal impediment to entering the national territory and, consequently, Runasur is not forbidden to take place.

“He has no impediment to do any work as a citizen as long as it does not involve the Peruvian State. Any citizen could have an initiative of this nature”, she stated.
