Brazil’s São Paulo defies central government, may require vaccine passports at airports after all

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The state of São Paulo may require vaccine passports against Covid-19 as of December 16 in its airports (Guarulhos, Viracopos, and Congonhas). The measure would also be valid for the Port of Santos.

According to Governor João Doria, an avowed enemy of Jair Bolsonaro and presidential candidate for 2022, if the federal government does not adopt the passport by December 15, the airports and the port will be subject to the requirement, even though they are subordinated to the federal administration.

A letter was sent by the state government to the Ministry of Health requesting the adoption of the mandatory presentation of proof of vaccination.

The measure in São Paulo would affect a good part of the travelers arriving in Brazil since the three airports account for two-thirds of all international flights in the country.

QUARANTINE

Yesterday (7), the federal government announced that it will require a five-day quarantine for travelers who have not been vaccinated against covid-19 who arrive in Brazil.

When commenting on the possibility of requiring a vaccination certificate for travelers who want to enter the country, recommended by the National Health Regulator (Anvisa), the Health Minister, Marcelo Queiroga, evaluated that the pandemic confrontation is not only about a document that causes more discord than consensus.

For the minister, the countries that identified the new variants cannot be punished with restrictions to their citizens.

Omicron’s first two Brazilian cases involved individuals who had already been vaccinated, making one thing clear: Covid vaccinations may not provide protection against new variants. Vaccinated people are just as infectious as unvaccinated.

SCIENTIFIC STUDIES CHALLENGING VACCINATION MANDATES ARE BEING IGNORED

At least 22 scientific studies demonstrate that mandates mandating or forcing Covid-19 vaccines provide no overall population health benefit and may even be harmful.

These research papers and studies raise doubts that Covid-19 vaccine mandates are supported by science and good public health practice.

Anyone, especially politicians, mayors, governors, chancellors, and presidents who are planning to implement Covid passports and/or vaccine mandates should be alerted and those seeking to challenge these mandates are invited to carefully consult these studies.

Given these scientific study results from around the world, legal action against already introduced vaccine mandates, and in broader terms, Covid passes, have good chances of being won, says a critic attorney association based in Germany. The most effective legal procedures are said to be class actions.
