New fungicide for soybeans produced in Argentina and exported to Paraguay

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Onsuva™ is based on the exclusive molecule Fluindapyr, FMC’s first carboxamide, a global leader in the production and sale of agricultural pesticides, and part of the company’s fungicide portfolio of technological solutions.

“Producing Onsuva™ in Argentina is an indication that FMC is changing its strategy, bringing only the active ingredients from abroad for local production. “By doing so, we create development, employment and foreign exchange by replacing imports and promoting exports,” said Matías Retamal, Product Manager of Insecticides, Fungicides, Seed Treatment and Plant Health for FMC Cono Sur.

This model had recently been implemented with the start of local production of Coragen insecticide.

Onsuva™ is made up of two active ingredients: the most important is Fluindapyr, which when combined with Difenoconazole achieves an innovative broad-spectrum fungicide for foliar disease control. With strong preventive, healing and eradicating action, Fluindapyr interferes in the mitochondrial resorption of fungal cells to achieve an outstanding performance in the integrated control of pathogens.

FMC’s new fungicide generates a high level of control of soybean rust and the whole complex of end-of-cycle diseases that commonly affect the oilseed, such as frogeye leaf spot, brown spot or leaf blight, also providing remarkable durability to ensure that the crop is protected for a prolonged period of time.

According to Retamal, “with a dose of between 250 and 300 cubic centimeters per hectare, in addition to a high level of control, a productive improvement in both quantity and quality can be achieved. Trials show yield increases of between 10 and 12%.”

The arrival of Onsuva™ in Paraguay is an extremely important development for local soybean growers due to the area’s specific climatic factors. “Pathogen pressure is high in Paraguayan production. Therefore, Onsuva™ is a key solution to address this problem,” Retamal explained.

The product will be distributed by La Casa del Agricultor – Francisco Vierci y Cía. S.R.L., a company with over 50 years of experience in the Paraguayan agricultural market and present in all of the country’s producing regions.

With a first stage of training and instruction on the product, followed by its launch last October 21 and finally the start of pilot demonstration and commercial plots to show its benefits to growers throughout the country, Onsuva™ is now positioning itself in Paraguay as a real solution.

“The year 2021 is very special for the company in Paraguay, because despite the daily challenges resulting from the global health situation, triggered by Covid-19, FMC has introduced a high-tech product that will provide many benefits to national producers. This demonstrates the company’s importance and commitment to the Paraguayan agricultural market by continuing to make investments,” said FMC’s Business Supervisor in Paraguay César González.
