This holiday weekend, Rio de Janeiro will host live, virtual and free events

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The improving official Covid-19 statistics return Cariocas to the pre-pandemic routine that began in March 2020.

After a series of restrictions, such as the banning of events, concerts, samba circles, and festivals to avoid crowds of people, Rio de Janeiro is preparing a series of in-person, virtual, and free events for the extended holiday weekend ending Monday, November 15th, Proclamation of the Republic.

The city resumes its cultural programming and offers leisure for all tastes. Those who are in Rio can choose among plays, shows, exhibitions, and gastronomic festivals.

For the public who prefers to keep the restrictions and have fun at home, Alceu Valença invites an online and live performance by Orquestra Ouro Preto, broadcast by the Like Channel and the orchestra’s YouTube channel tomorrow at 8:30 pm. In the repertoire are hits like “Anunciação” and “La Belle de Jour”, among others.

The tips include events for children, such as the presentation of the clown Chica, Saturday and Sunday, at 3 PM, at Quinta da Boa Vista, and the musical “The girl Akili and her talking drum”, shown on a big screen at Bistrô do Oi Futuro (Rua Dois de Dezembro 63, Flamengo), on Saturdays and Sundays, with sessions at 2 PM and 4 PM.

Exhibitions and food fairs

The program exhibits various themes, such as Expo Religião, which brings together 28 religious segments in dances, lectures, conversations, and films at the State Park Library (Av. Pres. Vargas 1.261).

The exhibit will be open until Monday, from 10 AM to 7 PM. On the 15th, at 3 PM, there will be a tribute to the 113 years of Umbanda.

Another tip is the exhibition “A.I. Artificial Intelligence – Irreversible. Now,” which is displayed at Cidade das Artes in Barra da Tijuca. It is possible to have immersive experiences that debate the directions of technology. The show is open from Wednesday to Friday, from 2 to 9 PM, and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 AM to 9 PM.

On November 13, 14, and 15, foodies are sure to have a great time. The Degusta Tijuca is back with three days of good food and live music. With partial blocking of traffic, the event will occupy a street between Rua Conde de Bonfim and Avenida Maracanã.

The gastronomic attractions will be presented by 25 exhibitors. The program of shows will include samba, jazz, black music, and other favorites, with a live soundtrack of flavors on the central stage.

The festival will receive the public from 12 noon to 11 PM on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday the 15th, a holiday,it will be open from 12 noon to 10 PM.

Another option is the 16th Burger Fest, which takes place until the end of the month in 11 states – in Rio, it is possible to participate in the capital, Baixada, Niterói, Saquarema, Região dos Lagos, and Petrópolis, in the Região Serrana.

Or visit the Comida di Rua [Street Food] Festival, until Monday, at Bangu Shopping (Rua Fonseca 40). Admission is free, and the event will also have a musical program.
