U.S. Embassy and consulates in Brazil resume visa renewals

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Monday (8), the U.S. Embassy in Brazil and the consulates resume issuing and renewing visas for tourists already vaccinated against Covid-19.

Because of the pandemic, since May 2020, the service had limited vacancies, with priority given to people in emergencies and student visas. In this new phase, the latter will remain a priority.

According to the spokesman and head of the embassy’s consular section, Antonio Agnone, a significant number of interview slots, including dates for this year, have already been made available. Another new feature is that, according to availability, interviews already scheduled can be rescheduled for an earlier date.

The embassy and consulates recommend that visa applicants regularly check the scheduling website for new appointments.

Rules
By the rules released by the embassy, in addition to being fully immunized against covid-19, travelers need to present proof of vaccination. The final dose must have been administered at least two weeks before departure for the U.S.  Immunizers approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) for emergency use will be accepted, i.e., all those used by the Brazilian National Immunization Program.

Another requirement is a negative PCR or antigen test done up to three days before departure.

In the case of children and adolescents up to 17 years old, it is not necessary to present proof of vaccination, but a negative test for covid, performed in the same period as their guardians, will be charged.
