Brazil should have an Oxford University research facility by 2022

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to the Ministry of Health, this will be the first unit of the educational institution in the Americas. The structure should be installed in 2022 and will conduct research on vaccines, infectious diseases, clinical research and global health.

It will offer master’s degrees, doctorates and refresher courses for professionals in the facility’s fields of operation.

Oxford University is part of a consortium with AstraZeneca pharmaceutical company, which in partnership with Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) produces and distributes one of the main vaccines against covid-19 in Brazil, known as Oxford-AstraZeneca.

According to the Ministry of Health, 113 million doses of this vaccine have been distributed to date by the National Immunization Program.

The term was signed at the university’s headquarters in the UK. Other institutions are also part of the project, such as the University of Siena and the Institute for Global Health, of the International Vaccines Institute.
