RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A bus carrying members of the Unidos de Padre Miguel samba school overturned Avenida Brasil in Rio de Janeiro’s North Zone on Sunday night (24). Seventeen people were injured.
Around 4 AM on Monday (25), the vehicle blocked the center lane of the avenue heading toward the West Zone.
According to members of the Samba School, the bus was on its way back from a demonstration at Acadêmicos do Cubango in Niterói, in the metropolitan area, when it was hit by a truck. The vehicle crossed the divider between the fast lane and the center lane and overturned.
Two tow trucks were needed to lift the vehicle.
Of the 17 people injured, five were taken to hospitals in the region. The others were assisted by firefighters, the Mobile Ambulance Service (Samu), and ambulances from private health care facilities. All had minor injuries.
