Second phase of electoral propaganda for presidential election in Chile begins today

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The electoral campaign in Chile enters its final phase this Friday, when the period of electoral propaganda begins, halfway through the two months before the presidential elections, which will be held on November 21,

From now on, presidential candidates, deputies, senators, and regional councils can carry out propaganda in public and private places with permission.

In addition, the election campaign begins on free-to-air television. According to electoral regulations, each presidential candidate has the same time on screen, 2 minutes and 51 seconds.

Eduardo Artés (Unión Patriótica), Gabriel Boric (Apruebo Dignidad), Marco Enríquez-Ominami (Partido Progresista, PRO), José Antonio Kast (Frente Social Cristiano), Franco Parisi (Partido de la Gente), Yasna Provoste (Nuevo Pacto Social) and Sebastián Sichel (Chile Podemos Más) will face each other in the elections for president.

If none of the seven candidates receives more than half of the vote in the November 21 election, which polls indicate is almost inevitable, a runoff will be held on December 19 between the top two vote-getters in the first round.

The right-wing candidate, Kast, thanked those who had agreed to support him in a possible second round and assured that he would do the same with Sebastián Sichel so that Apruebo Dignidad’s standard-bearer, Gabriel Boric, who is leading in the polls, would not reach La Moneda (the seat of the executive).

The one who reaches La Moneda will have to put the country, which was hit by severe protests in 2019, back on track and implement the rules of the new Constitution, whose drafting began a few days ago and must be approved in a referendum, probably in 2022.
