Bolivia’s tourism sector suffocates

RIO  DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) show that the flow of tourists to Bolivia decreased by 74% in 2020.

On the other hand, sources from the sector claim that this figure does not reflect reality, that is a crisis that has affected the industry from 2020 until today.

The INE notes in its bulletin “Tourism Activity 2020” that the tourism sector has presented negative figures, such as that of the arrival of foreign visitors to the national territory, which reached 323,272, that is, 74% less than in 2019, when 1,239,281 people were registered.

Regarding the arrival of foreign visitors, broken down by country of origin, a significant decrease was also observed in the same period (Photo internet reproduction)

The number of visitors arriving in the country by road decreased by 74.8%, while the number of visitors arriving by air decreased by 71.9%.

Compared between 2019 and 2020, the negative figures in the field of transport modes showed that the flow of foreign arrivals decreased by -71.9% by road and by -74.8% through airports.

A significant decrease was also observed in the same period regarding the arrival of foreign visitors, broken down by country of origin.

Argentina (-73.4%), Peru (-74%), Brazil (-68.5%), Chile (-67.5%), the United States (-73.1%) and Spain (-76.1%) stand out.
