Brazil’s Anfavea reduces 2021 production estimates to 2.21 million vehicles

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The president of Anfavea, Luiz Carlos de Moraes, said during the presentation of the industry results in September that the entity had to revise downward the estimates for sales, production, and exports for this year due to the semiconductor crisis and logistical problems that automakers face in Brazil.

According to him, Anfavea – the Brazilian Automobile Manufacturers’ Association – outlined two scenarios for 2021: an optimistic one and a more conservative one. “There is a lot of difficulty on the radar to define the estimates for the last quarter, but we had to calibrate downwards the projections we made in July. They no longer make sense,” he said.

According to Moraes, considering the production rhythm of the third quarter, around 160,000 vehicles per month, in the last three months of this year, 480,000 units may be produced, which in total reaches 2.12 million vehicles, a rise of 6%.

In a scenario with a production rhythm similar to the beginning of the year, of 190,000 units, the assembly of vehicles may grow 10% this year, reaching 2.21 million vehicles, a 10% increase, according to Anfavea. The July estimate was for a 22% growth, with 2.45 million units produced.

Concerning new car licences, the leader pointed out that the volume in the domestic market may reach between 2.03 million and 2.11 million, a drop of 1% or a rise of 3%. Anfavea’s last projection was for a 13% growth, reaching 2.32 million.
