Argentina and Uruguay reaffirm their cooperation in commerce and infrastructure

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero talked with his Uruguayan counterpart, Francisco Bustillo, with the intention of “strengthening the commercial exchange between both countries”, according to official sources this Tuesday (6).

Cafiero received Bustillo, and they agreed on two working meetings in November and December: the first one will be formed by the Argentine-Uruguayan Integration Commission (CIAU), which will address the bilateral relationship between Secretaries of State.

In the second, “the Argentine-Uruguayan Bilateral Commission on Commercial Affairs will evaluate the issues of the bilateral economic and commercial agenda,” said the Argentine Foreign Ministry in a statement.

“Both foreign ministers also instructed their technical and diplomatic teams to advance with the technical feasibility study of the Monte Caseros – Bella Unión bridge,” they advised. The bridge over the Uruguay River connects the province of Corrientes on the Argentine side and the department of Artigas in Uruguay, and will be the fourth bridge linking both territories.

For its part, the Uruguayan Foreign Ministry defined in an official message that the meeting was “fruitful”. “The ministers agreed to jointly approach the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) – Development Bank of Latin America to request the financing of the feasibility study for the project”, according to the official text.
