RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary-General Luis Almagro on Tuesday appointed Brazilian Fernando Lottenberg as commissioner against anti-Semitism, a newly created position.
The commissioner’s role will be to coordinate efforts in the Western Hemisphere against discrimination and hate, the OAS said in a press release.
Lottenberg is an attorney who has been president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Brazil and currently serves on the board of the Institute of Latin American and Latino Affairs of the American Jewish Committee, a Washington-based pro-Israel lobby.
“Promoting the adoption and implementation in the region of the anti-Semitism definition developed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance will be one of Commissioner Lottenberg’s main tasks,” Almagro said.
