RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to the Argentine Foreign Ministry in a press release, this was agreed by the Argentine Foreign Minister, Santiago Cafiero, and the Bolivian Foreign Minister, Rogelio Mayta, in a virtual meeting.
According to the statement, Cafiero and Mayta “coordinated the implementation of a pilot test for the international border transit of residents of La Quiaca (Argentina) and Villazón (Bolivia)”.

“The same will be carried out following the corresponding sanitary protocol”, the official note points out.
Both foreign ministers also agreed on implementing a safe, sanitary corridor and a customs operational agreement that will allow the inhabitants of the town of Los Toldos, in the Argentine province of Salta (northwest), to once again have a connection with the rest of the Argentine territory.
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and the closure of the borders, Los Toldos, home to some 3,000 people, has been practically isolated since, due to its location, its inhabitants must cross Bolivian territory to reach the Argentine city of Oran.
According to the communiqué, “with this agreement, a concrete solution was reached for the residents of Los Toldos”, who must travel some 100 kilometers through Bolivian territory to go to Oran, in Salta, a city of reference in administrative, medical, and commercial terms.
