Ontop raises US$20 million to support teams with international talent

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – With its software aimed at removing barriers to hiring the best talent, Ontop is not only growing at full speed but also attracting more and more investors.

The formerly Bogotá Colombia-based company, which is just over a year old, just closed the second round of US$20 million led by Tiger and Point72 Ventures. SoftBank’s SB Opportunity fund also participated.

This brings Ontop’s total venture capital funding since its inception to US$26 million.

Co-founded by Colombian Santiago Aparicio, Julian Torres, and Jaime Abella, Ontop enables companies to hire and pay international workers and simplifies these processes legally.

Ontop’s platform is already being used in 67 countries, allowing transactions in international payments. According to information provided by the company, it has grown its customer base by 40% month by month since its creation and its workforce increased by 130% only in the last quarter of 2020, while also opening operations in Africa and Asia.

Ontop is now headquartered in Miami, which has become a hub for technology and Latin American talent.

Its clients include Rappi, Ayenda Hotels, Ifood, Truora, Laika, Chiper, Simetrik, and Treble.AI. With the momentum of the new investors and YCombinator, many more are sure to follow.

Previous investors include Rappi founders Simón Borrero, Felipe Villamarin and Andrés Bilbao; Santiago Suárez, co-founder of Addi; Habi co-founder Brynne McNulty Rojas; María Echeverri, co-founder of Muni; Maite Muniz, co-founder of Truora; and Nathan Lusting, partner at Magma Partners.

Also, David Cuadrado, co-founder of Truora; Omnibnk co-founders Diego Caicedo and Andrés Abumohor; Platzi co-founders Freddy Vega and Christian Van Der Henst; and Movii co-founder Hernando Rubio, among others.
