Brazil airlines post drop in passenger demand in August – ANAC

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the month of August, the domestic market flew over 5.5 million passengers in terminals across Brazil, 30.2% less than in the pre-pandemic August of 2019. In the year-to-date, airlines have transported 35 million travelers.

Aircraft occupancy stood at 80.1%, down 2.9% compared to 2019. Domestic cargo transported in the month totaled 33,461 tons, down 11.3% compared to 2019.

(photo internet reproduction)In the international market, the sector is still impacted by border closures and tourism travel restrictions. In the 8th month of the year, demand and supply for flights shrank by 76.4% and 65.5%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2019. On the other hand, cargo and mail transportation posted 25.5% growth.

The agency has compared these indicators with the same period in 2019, given the extraordinary low turnover posted in 2020 due to the pandemic.
