RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Former interim president Áñez, whose defense counsel has in recent weeks been trying to secure an injunction to release her from prison due to her poor health condition, has accused president Arce’s government of “polarizing” and dividing Bolivian society.
“The polarization encouraged by the Arce Government in the country is escalating, causing division among Bolivians, among regions. Let’s not fall for the provocations that divide us,” Áñez tweeted.
Áñez’s statements come a week after the Penitentiary Regime of La Paz punished her with 3 days without visits for not attending a virtual hearing while the Prosecutor’s Office requested an additional 6 months of pre-trial detention.
Áñez is imprisoned accused of several crimes for her involvement in the 2019 post electoral crisis. During her time in prison, she has suffered several health issues and attempted suicide.
