Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro releases events for up to 500 people in open venues

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The presence of the public in stadiums has been authorized for people who have taken both doses of the vaccine. The public capacity will be limited to 50%.

As of next Tuesday, the 21st, the city of Rio will again be able to host events in open venues for up to 500 people.

In addition, the public will be able to go back to gyms and soccer stadiums as long as the vaccination scheme is complete. The flexibilization measures were published in this Friday’s edition of the Municipal Gazette.

The presence of the public in the stadiums will be allowed for people who have taken the two doses of the vaccine, with the second application having occurred at least 14 days before. In addition, the public present will be limited to 50% of the venue’s capacity.

Another option is to request games in a test-event scheme, like the match between Flamengo and Gremio, Wednesday, at Maracanã. In these cases, the public will need to present Covid-19 tests done in accredited laboratories and be monitored for 15 days after the game.

On Friday, the city of Rio said it accepted the request of soccer team Vasco da Gama for the match against Cruzeiro on Sunday to have fans present, on a trial basis. The Rio de Janeiro club is waiting for the approval of soccer governing body CBF, which will discuss the issue in the afternoon with the 20 clubs that compete in the competition.

Nightclubs, dance clubs, and dance halls, in turn, remain prohibited from operating “until the index of 65% of the population of the municipality with complete vaccination scheme is reached, after which they can operate at 50% capacity,” says the text of the decree.
