Uruguay and Argentina resume air connection

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Montevideo and Buenos Aires on Tuesday (14) resumed their air connection through Aerolíneas Argentinas, two weeks after Uruguay reopened its borders to foreigners with properties in the country.

According to Aerolíneas Argentinas’ regional manager for Uruguay and Paraguay Gastón De Chazal, there will initially be a flight on Tuesdays and another on Fridays. The flights will be operated in 96-passenger Embraer 190 aircraft.

The first of each day will depart from Jorge Newbery Metropolitan Airport at 8.50 AM (11.50 GMT), while at 10.30 AM (13.30 GMT) it will depart from Carrasco International Airport to Argentina.

In addition, as of next Thursday the air connection between Buenos Aires and Punta del Este will be resumed with a flight on Thursdays and another on Sundays.

When asked about the company’s prospects on this matter, De Chazal assured that they are “good” and that the company is “very happy,” although arrivals of Argentines in Uruguay are somewhat slower than departures of Uruguayans to the neighboring country.

With these flights, Montevideo and Buenos Aires are resuming their air connection after almost a year and a half.

Moreover, Uruguay added a new South American country to which it operates direct flights, which is now the case with Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Peru.

Uruguay reopened its borders to foreigners with property in its territory on September 1, while as from November 1, any foreigner who has completed the vaccination process will be allowed entry in Uruguay.
