Chile registers lowest positivity rate in pandemic; 6 regions report fewer than 10 new cases

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – At the local level, Aysén reported no cases during the last day, while 5 other regions reported fewer than 10 cases (Magallanes, Ñuble, Atacama, Antofagasta and Arica y Parinacota).

The number of active cases, able to transmit the disease, reached 3,568 throughout the country. The regions leading the list are the Santiago Metropolitan Region (1,804), Valparaíso (303) and Bío Bío (276).

These figures were reached by processing 41,971 tests, of which 34,548 were PCR and 7,423 antigen tests. In the case of PCRs, positivity stood at 0.83% at the national level. This is the lowest record in the pandemic, beating the August 25 record of 0.98%.

In addition, 13 regions registered positivity below 1%, highlighting Aysén (0%), Tarapacá (0.32%), Magallanes (0.34%) and Ñuble (0.40%).

Eight people lost their lives to Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the health emergency to 36,945.

HOSPITAL SITUATION

Chile recorded 657 Covid patients hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU). Of these, 497 are on mechanical ventilation (75.65%).

In total, there are 2,978 ICU beds available in the country, of which 2,426 are occupied (81.4%).

The regions with the highest number of Covid patients in ICU beds are the Santiago Metropolitan Region (408), Valparaíso (47) and Bío Bío (38).
