Dominican Republic economy will grow by 3% compared to 2019 – Central Bank

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Dominican economy will grow this year by 3% above the level registered in 2019, before the pandemic, affirmed Wednesday (25) the governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu.

This growth figure “is ten times more than the 0.3% indicated by the former president,” Leonel Fernández last Monday, said the head of the Central Bank.

Fernandez gave this figure during a televised speech in which he tried to relativize the economic achievements of the government of President Luis Abinader in his first year in office.

Valdez Albizu stressed that in comparison to 2020, the increase of the gross domestic product (GDP) would be “double digits”, that is, a growth of 10% or more, which means recovering the pre-pandemic level and represents “one of the most remarkable performances in Latin America” (Photo internet reproduction)

Valdez Albizu stressed that in comparison to 2020, the increase of the gross domestic product (GDP) would be “double digits”, that is, a growth of 10% or more, which means recovering the pre-pandemic level and represents “one of the most remarkable performances in Latin America”.

The governor considered that reversing the GDP decline in just one year is something “extraordinary” and “should be appreciated as a reliable proof of the resilience of the Dominican economy”.

“The Dominican Republic will be one of the first countries in the region to recover its GDP per capita,” added the governor of the issuing bank.
