In Rio de Janeiro state, 180,000 did not return for 2nd Covid shot; yet no one asks why

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The state of Rio de Janeiro has 180,000 people who, after the first application, did not return on the appointed day for the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19.

This statement comes from the Secretary of Health of the State of Rio, Alexandre Chieppe.

Are 180 thousand residents in Rio de Janeiro on a vaccination strike or why don't they want a second dose?
Are 180,000 residents in Rio de Janeiro on a vaccination strike or why don’t they want a second dose?

He also commented on another prediction of the Secretariat: that the Delta variant of the disease, which is more easily transmissible, will prevail in the state in the coming weeks.

He made these statements in an interview with TV Globo’s Bom Dia Rio station on Tuesday (10).

Speaking to the media platform, Chieppe was in for a surprise when confronted with data that about 80,000 people have not returned on the scheduled date in the city of Rio de Janeiro, to receive the second dose of vaccination.

“Apart from the capital, about 100,000 people in the state still need to receive a second dose,” he said then, confirming that in the state of Rio de Janeiro this figure must be extrapolated to 180,000 people with incomplete vaccination protection.

However, the reason for the vaccination lull by many residents was not discussed, although this would probably be the most interesting question.

How is it that the vast majority of the country’s media aggressively promote Covid vaccination, but their messages are not getting through to a rising share of the population?

Have these people become victims of so-called conspiracy theories or was the experience of the first dose so traumatic that they are fed up? Do they have second thoughts or are there other reasons?

No one seems to know the answer.
