Retired army captain designed and executed attack against Colombia’s Ivan Duque

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A retired captain of the Colombian Army was the one who designed and executed the June 25 attack against the helicopter of President Iván Duque in the city of Cúcuta and the attack 10 days earlier with a car bomb against an Army brigade, for which 10 FARC dissidents have already been arrested.

The Colombian Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, assured Thursday in an appearance that “about the person who designed and executed the criminal plan, Andres Fernando Medina Rodriguez, it must be said that he is a retired captain of the National Army who some years ago was discharged for health reasons”.

On June 25, six shots hit the presidential helicopter – in which Duque, two of his ministers, and several regional officials were traveling – as it was approaching Cúcuta, capital of Norte de Santander and bordering Venezuela, coming from the town of Sardinata, in the Catatumbo region.
