Research shows factors holding back 71% of Brazilians who do not invest

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The individual investment market still has a long way to go in Brazil. According to a survey conducted last week with 10,095 users of the website Reclame Aqui, 71.8% of respondents said they are not accustomed to investing their money.

The reason pointed out by the majority of respondents who said they are not in the habit of investing was the lack of resources: 40.5%

Next, the lack of interest in risk was the second most chosen of the survey’s four options, with 33.3% of answers among Brazilians who do not invest. The lack of knowledge (17.1%) and fear of losing money (9%) complete the list of the main reasons that stop Brazilians from investing.

The survey also showed that among people who currently do not invest, 68% do not intend do so in the future.

Reclame Aqui’s survey also drew a profile of the 28.2% of respondents who said they are not in the habit of investing.

The majority (41.7%) are young people aged between 18 and 30, followed by people aged between 30 and 40 (22.3%), and people over 50 years of age, with 18.1%. The 40-50 age group has the fewest people in this position, with 17.9% of answers.

The main reason for investing is financial stability, reported by 40% of respondents. Planning for education, travel, home ownership, or children was in second to last position on the list of preferences, with 9.5% of answers. Entrepreneurship in their own business is the last option for investors, according to the survey, with 7.7% of answers.
