Central Bank approves capital increase of US$139 million in J.P. Morgan’s Brazilian operations

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian Central Bank approved a capital increase of R$791.397 (about US$139) million in J.P. Morgan’s Brazilian operations. The capital of the bank itself increased from R$2.875 billion to R$3.5 billion. The capital of the foreign exchange and securities brokerage house went from R$533.872 million to R$700 million.

At the end of last month, the American bank announced the purchase of a 40% stake in the Brazilian digital bank C6 Bank.

Among other banks and brokerage houses that have recently had capital increases authorized by the Central Bank are Digimais (R$50 million hike, to R$239.865 million); Oliveira Trust DTVM (R$21.364 million hike, to R$28.523 million); Banco Triângulo (R$3.432 million hike, to R$313.232 million); Andbank DTVM (R$700 million hike, to R$1.794 billion); Banco RNX, formerly Maxinvest (up to R$1.725 million, to R$16.929 million); and Intesa Sanpaolo (up to R$599 million, to R$934.378 million). The latter bought Italian rival UBI in a global deal last year.

The Voiter bank (formerly Indusval) had its capital reduced by R$51.170 million, to R$1.310 billion.
