Rio de Janeiro subway passenger volume up 117% in Q2 2021 over last year

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The three subway lines in Rio de Janeiro carried some 27,000 passengers per hour in the 2nd quarter of 2021, an increase of 117.5% compared to the same period last year. The figures were released by MetrôRio on Monday, July 5.

On lines 1 and 2, managed by MetrôRio, the number of passengers per hour reached 21,000, compared to 9,888 in the 2nd quarter of 2020. Of these, the number of paying passengers stood at 18,778. Line 4 carried 6,242 people per hour in the 2nd quarter of 2021, up 137% compared to the same period last year.

“MetrôRio continues to monitor the impacts of the coronavirus on its business, in order to inform the market in general of factors with relevant impacts to the company,” MetrôRio said.
