Argentina closes its borders to protect against Delta variant

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Argentina pulled even tighter Monday in its fight against the Covid 19 pandemic, which has already caused more than 92,000 deaths in the South American country.

With international tourism banned since December, the government of Alberto Fernandez also decided to restrict the entry of Argentines or residents from abroad.

From this Monday until at least July 9, only 600 travelers per day will be allowed into the country, which is expected to leave thousands of Argentines outside its borders. With the drastic measure, the executive wants to slow the spread of the contagious Delta variant, which spread rapidly in Europe and forced several countries to stop the infection.
