Latin American consumers expect 5G to improve internet services -survey

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The majority of mobile users in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru are optimistic about the new generation of mobile services (5G). The data is part of a survey conducted by Luis Costa & Asoc. at the request of system provider Ciena.

The survey reveals that the respondents said they feel the need for better Internet service, based on the following factors: 44% to work at home; 41% of families because they are using more broadband; 41% because they are forced to study at home; and 30% because entertainment consumes more data.

According to the survey, 84% said they believe that 5G will have a positive impact on the digital economy.

In the case of Brazil, respondents said the new technology will benefit several sectors, including communication (86%); education/remote study (85%); remote work (83%); and entertainment (82%).

Brazilians also answered about which device they would be willing to abandon – a third of those surveyed cited the landline phone. On the other hand, about which device they would like to keep, 66% said the cell phone.

“5G brings many benefits […],” Fabio Medina, general manager and vice president of sales for Latin America at Ciena, said in a statement. “People need higher bandwidth, low latency, and minimal service interruptions, and 5G is the key piece of that puzzle.”
