Rio de Janeiro awards US$160 scholarship to trainees in the field of culture

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Municipal Secretariat of Culture in Rio de Janeiro will launch Wednesday an apprenticeship program aimed at training young people to become professionals in the sector in the city.

The “Cultural Apprentice” program offers a monthly stipend of R$800 (US$160) and 12 months of training for young people between the ages of 18 and 24. Initially, 500 individual scholarships will be offered. The beneficiaries will learn lighting, sound, and management techniques in the cultural equipment of the City Hall.

In addition to the scholarships, there will also be virtual training with online courses, which is to certify up to 5,000 young people as cultural professionals by 2024.

The target group is people without formal employment or a high school diploma. To participate, it is necessary to live in Rio, preferably in the outlying areas. Full details will be published tomorrow.
