Brazilian consumer confidence up 3.7 points – FGV

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Consumer Confidence Index, measured by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), increased 3.7 points between April and May this year. With this second consecutive increase, the indicator reached 76.2 points, on a scale of zero to 200 points.

“The expectation of personal finances is not improving and the drive for consumption remains very low,” says FGV researcher Viviane Seda Bittencourt (Photo internet reproduction)

The Brazilian consumer increased its confidence both in relation to the present and to the future. The Present Situation Index grew 4.2 points and reached 68.7 points. The Expectations Index rose 3.2 points to 82.4 points.

“There was a slight improvement in families’ perception of the current situation, which reached a minimum level in March, and an increase in prospects for the coming months. But although optimistic about the country’s economic situation in the coming months, the expectation of personal finances is not improving and the drive for consumption remains very low,” says FGV researcher Viviane Seda Bittencourt.
