Ecuador adds 1,011 cases of Covid-19 and accumulates 418,851 contagions

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Ecuador added this Sunday 1,011 cases of Covid-19 and has accumulated 418,851 infections so far in the pandemic, whose first record in the country dates back to February 29 last year, informed the Ministry of Public Health.

The number of confirmed deaths from the SARS-CoV-2 virus increased 6 in the last 24 hours to reach 14,764 during the pandemic, in addition to 5,429 “probable deaths” with the disease, for a total of 20,193 deaths.

The province of Pichincha, whose capital is Quito, is the most affected by the pandemic, with 148,685 accumulated cases, which means 333 new infections compared to Saturday’s record.

According to the Ministry’s report, Pichincha is followed by the coastal province of Guayas, whose capital is Guayaquil, with 56,307 infections, 142 cases more than the previous day.

Then come the provinces of Manabí (30,486), Azuay (22,705), El Oro (20,223), Loja (15,826), Imbabura (13,365), Tungurahua (13,126), Los Ríos (12,056), Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas (11,044), Cotopaxi (10,965) and Esmeraldas (8,198).

Regarding the situation in the cantons or municipalities, the Ministry’s report pointed out that Quito is the city most affected by the disease with 137,339 infections (295 more than on Saturday), followed by Guayaquil with 37,508 cases (52 on the last day).

Then come cities like Cuenca (17,597), Loja (10,966), Portoviejo (10,112), Machala (9,937), Santo Domingo (9,795), Ambato (9,411) and Ibarra (7,003).

On its side, the governmental Plan Vacunarse reported on its web portal that up to last Friday, 1,839,108 vaccines had been administered, of which 1,371,272 correspond to the first doses and 467,836 to the second applications.
