Argentine President returns to his country after a “very productive” European tour

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, returned this Saturday to the South American country, after a European tour that began last Sunday and that the president described as “very productive”.

“We are returning to the country after a very productive tour. We have achieved the objectives we had set for ourselves. We have the support of the leaders in the negotiation of the debt we inherited and the understanding of the IMF in relation to the difficult situation Argentina is going through,” Fernández posted on his Twitter profile hours before his arrival at Ezeiza international airport.

Fernández began his tour last Sunday in Portugal and continued to Spain, France, and Italy, where, in addition to meeting with the chief executives of each country, he had meetings with the King of Spain, Felipe VI; Pope Francis; the director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Goergieva; and the U.S. Special Climate Envoy, John Kerry.

In addition to adding international support for the renegotiation of the debt that the southern country has with the IMF, Fernández addressed other issues such as distributing vaccines against the coronavirus.

“We also reaffirmed the need for a greater commitment of the entire multilateral system to make vaccines a global public good. This is a point that Pope Francis has been making, with whom we were able to meet and talk about the recovery of our country,” he stated.

He also wanted to send a message of gratitude to all the leaders who participated in the meetings and highlighted the “commitment of solidarity” they expressed.

“I thank all those who dedicated their time to me and expressed their solidarity commitment in this difficult time we are going through. We must build an Argentina that grows with equality and never again postpones anyone”, he concluded.
