Since the beginning of March, the new cases of contamination have grown and doubled in two months. The daily average of new infections has surpassed the 800,000 barriers. In the last 24 hours monitored by WHO, India accounted for 43% of new coronavirus cases, reflecting the out-of-control health crisis in one of the world’s largest countries.

In 24 hours, the WHO counted 3,498 deaths in India, or 24% of the world total. In Brazil, there were 3,163 deaths or 21.7% of the global total. The new infections in India reached 386,000 in one day, almost five times more than in Brazil.

Last week, Brazil still recorded the highest number of deaths globally, for the new week in a row. But the Indian tragedy seems to have no limits. The figures for new cases and deaths are considered vastly underestimated, according to health observers.
