RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Argentina’s 2020/21 corn production will reach 50 million tons, up from 48.5 million tons previously forecast, due to a larger planting area and good yields in Cordoba province, the Rosario grain exchange said in a report Wednesday night.
Its soybean crop forecast remained unchanged at 45 million tons.
Cordoba province “will have a record crop. This will be fundamental to sustain the national production of corn since it will contribute 42% of the total volume,” the exchange said.
Unlike other agricultural provinces, such as Buenos Aires and Santa Fe, Cordoba has not suffered from a drought that hit the Pampas grain belt from mid-2020 until February.
The prolonged drought recently led the Rosario exchange to cut its 2020/21 soybean crop estimate to 45 million tons from a previous forecast of 49 million tons.
