Chile claims that Sinovac vaccine prevents 67% of Covid-19 infections

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The vaccine from the Chinese laboratory Sinovac prevents 67% of Covid-19 infections, according to data from a study on its effectiveness in the real population released on Friday by the government of Chile, one of the countries with the highest percentage of the inoculated population in the world.

“This means that out of 100 people who would have had Covid-19, there would only be 33 cases if we were all vaccinated,” Rafael Araos, an advisor at the Ministry of Health, explained at a press conference.

This is the first large study on the real population of this vaccine – and not a clinical trial, which measures efficacy with volunteers and under specific conditions – and for this purpose, between February 2 and April 1, nearly 10.5 million people were followed up.
