Concerned with CPI, Bolsonaro asks for support, criticizes governors and mayors

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Pressed because of the imminent installation of the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee (CPI) of Covid-19, President Jair Bolsonaro used social networks on the morning of Monday April 12, to ask for unity and support for his government.

The head of the Executive reinforced his defense in favor of “freedom” and criticized again restrictive measures adopted by governors and mayors during the pandemic. “More and more the population is being left without jobs, income, and means of survival…. Chaos is knocking at the door of Brazilians. Ask what each one of us can do for Brazil and its freedom and… get ready,” he wrote, without further details.

The publication is accompanied by video clips of interviews with Bolsonaro before, during, and after his election campaign, including images of the stabbing episode and pro-government demonstrations. In asking for support, he speaks of respect for the Constitution and says that one should not “offend the very one who can be decisive” in difficult moments.

In the post, the president tells his followers: “Don’t disintegrate, get lost, believe… Convince those who are on your side to defend the Constitution, especially its art. 5, our green and yellow flag.” Bolsonaro also says that “in difficult moments, one must join forces, never offend the very one who can be decisive in this rescue” and repeats that “if the stabbing had been fatal, today you would have Haddad or Ciro as president. Your freedom, certainly, would no longer exist.”

In the text, published on his Facebook page, the president also re-stated that governors and mayors who adopt shutdown measures are “prototypes of dictators.” This Sunday, April 11, the president’s conversation with Senator Jorge Kajuru (Citizenship-GO) was released by the parliamentarian himself.

In the recording, Bolsonaro calls for the impeachment of Federal Supreme Court (STF) justices and suggests that the Covid-19 CPI investigate governors and mayors.

“Today, you are having a sample of what communism is and who the prototypes of dictators are, those who decree prohibition of cults, curfews, expropriation of property, restrictions on displacement, etc.,” he said.
