Venezuela lives its worst day of the pandemic with 1,348 contagions and 13 deaths

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the last 24 hours, 1,348 people were infected with the new coronavirus in Venezuela, and 13 died from Covid-19, advised this Wednesday, March 31,  the executive vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, which means the highest figures in both sections since the beginning of the pandemic.

“The presidential commission for the prevention and control of covid-19 advises the people of Venezuela that in the last 24 hours a total of 1,348 new contagions were registered in the country (1,337 community cases and 11 imported),” Rodriguez reported on her Twitter account.

On Monday, Venezuelan authorities detected 1,288 new infections, which was the highest number of the pandemic so far, surpassing August 13, 2020, the previous record. This Tuesday, authorities detected 1,206 new cases.

The state of Miranda, which is home to a large part of the Caracas metropolitan area, is the region with the most new cases (279) ahead of the capital (253).

In third place is La Guaira, neighboring Caracas, home to several satellite cities and the Maiquetía airport, which serves the capital, with 166.

They are followed by Nueva Esparta (106), Carabobo (78), Zulia (74), Anzoátegui (73), Yaracuy (60), Falcón (54), Bolívar (53), Mérida (53), Aragua (40), Lara (25), Trujillo (8), Amazonas (7), Delta Amacuro (7) and Portuguesa (1).

Of the imported cases, five came from the Dominican Republic, four from Panama, one from Mexico, and one from Colombia, all on international flights.

On the other hand, the 13 deaths surpass those reported on Monday and Tuesday, both with 12, a figure that set the record until today, together with last August 13, 2020, when a dozen people also lost their lives due to covid-19, according to official data.

Among the deceased, there are two women aged 85 and 75 and two men aged 70 and 68 from Caracas. A 73-year-old man and two women aged 73 and 68 from Miranda also died.

The list is completed by a 79-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man from the central state of Aragua, a 65-year-old man, and a 59-year-old woman from the island state of Nueva Esparta, as well as two men aged 75 and 69 from the states of Monagas and Guárico.

Thus, Venezuela now has 160,497 cases of the new coronavirus, of which 20,839 have been detected during March, the month in which the Brazilian variant arrived in the country.

Of these, 147,846 have already recovered, representing 92% of the total, and there are 11,049 active cases. In total, 1,602 people have died from Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
