Brazil has the most lethal weekend of the pandemic: 5,000 dead and 130,000 new cases

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The lack of control of the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil leaves the tragic balance of 5,094 new deaths notified to the National Council of Health Secretaries, the CONASS, this weekend, adding the occurrences from Saturday (March 27) and Sunday.

There were 3,438 deaths on Saturday – the third day in which the mark of 3,000 deaths was surpassed since the beginning of the new coronavirus pandemic in March of last year, all within this week.

On the most lethal Sunday in the country’s history, Brazil recorded 1,656 more victims. A month ago, on February 27 and 28, also a weekend, there were 1,386 deaths on Saturday and 721 on Sunday (2,107 in total).

In addition to recording the deaths of 106 Brazilians per hour on average, Conass also received 130,274 notifications of new cases of Covid-19 in Brazil.
