No vaccine-related deaths in Brazil, says ANVISA

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL  – On Tuesday, March 2nd, Brazil’s health regulatory agency ANVISA assured that the vaccines used in Brazil are considered safe and, “so far, there is no known death case related to the use of covid-19 vaccines authorized in the country.”

“The use of data out of context or without the required technical interpretation may lead to false conclusions,” alerted ANVISA.

According to the agency, deaths for “other health reasons” are “already expected,” even from natural causes, when the mortality rate for each age group of the Brazilian population is observed. The agency says there is no link between vaccine use data and any serious adverse events or deaths recorded in the country.

“The use of data out of context or without the required technical interpretation may lead to false conclusions,” alerted the agency in a note.

Currently, notifications of occurrences related to vaccines and medicines are forwarded to the agency by health professionals and services, as well as by the manufacturers. Laboratories are also required to report suspected cases that may be serious. The data are used in the monitoring process conducted by the agency.

According to the agency, other notifications submitted by third parties are considered to be less scientifically relevant and serve only as a guide for monitoring efforts.
