Governor Announces Easing of Restrictions in São Paulo

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – São Paulo Governor João Doria stated on Friday, February 5th, that as of Saturday the capital of São Paulo will be entering the Yellow Phase.

Thus, the whole of Greater São Paulo will be subject to fewer restrictions than obtain under the Red and Orange phases, in force until last week. In practice, stores will be open for longer, but the sale of alcoholic beverages by bars and restaurants will only be allowed until 8 PM.

This is the second review of the São Paulo plan announced this week. On Wednesday, February 3rd, Doria reduced the limitations, shifting phases from Red to Orange. The justification for the relaxation is that the numbers related to the spread of Covid-19 in the region, as well as hospitalizations, have shown a positive evolution.
